How to set it up

  1. Log in with Discord at dash.freemc.host.
  2. Click Create server, choose Mods → Forge and the Minecraft version your mods need.
  3. Open the control panel, go to Plugins & Mods and install the mods you want – only builds for your exact version are shown, required libraries are added automatically.
  4. Restart the server and share the address with your friends. They need the same mods in their game.

Which Forge versions?

Every Minecraft version Forge supports, from the classics like 1.12.2 and 1.16.5 up to the newest release. The right Java version is picked automatically, so older modpacks start without fiddling with Java.

How many mods fit?

3 GB RAM runs roughly 25–50 typical Forge mods comfortably. Very large packs (All The Mods, RLCraft, big Create packs) usually need 6–10 GB and won’t run well on a free server – a lighter pack or a Fabric setup with performance mods is the better choice.

Your own mods and modpacks

Mods that aren’t on Modrinth can be uploaded with the file manager or SFTP. For a modpack, upload the pack’s server files, not the client pack.

Is Forge hosting really free?

Yes. Every account gets one free server with 3 GB RAM. There are no paid plans and no credit card is needed.

Can Bedrock players join a Forge server?

No – Bedrock crossplay (Geyser) isn’t available for Forge. Use Paper, Fabric or NeoForge if you need Bedrock players.

Does my server run 24/7?

It runs as long as you like while people play. After 24 hours without any player it stops to save resources – press Start and it’s back, nothing is lost.
