Information for parents
Your child wants to run a Minecraft server on FreeMC.Host? This page explains in plain words what that means, what it costs (nothing), what we store and how you can keep the server private and safe.
The short version
- It is free. There is nothing to buy – no plans, no in-game purchases, no credit card. Payments are not possible at all.
- The server is your child's own Minecraft world that friends can join – like a LAN game, but it keeps running when your child's computer is off.
- It can be made private: with the whitelist only invited players can join.
- We are financed by ads in the dashboard and control panel – not on the Minecraft server itself.
- Age: 16+, or younger with your permission. Sign-in works with a Discord account (Discord's own minimum age is 13).
What is a Minecraft server?
Normally a Minecraft world only exists while the person who created it is playing. A server keeps the world online, so your child and their friends can play together whenever they want. On FreeMC.Host your child gets one such server for free and manages it in a website control panel: start and stop it, change the Minecraft version, add mods or plugins and decide who may join.
Many parents like that it also teaches real skills: managing files, reading error messages, configuring software and organising a community with friends.
Why is it free? Is there a catch?
FreeMC.Host is paid for by advertising. The website where your child manages the server (dashboard and control panel) shows ads, including a short ad screen of a few seconds before a server starts. There are no paid plans, no subscriptions and no way to pay us – so your child cannot spend money with us, by accident or on purpose.
About the ads: they come from an external ad network and are shown in isolated frames that have no access to your child's account. We cannot review every single ad in advance. If you or your child see an ad that isn't appropriate, please tell us on Discord – we can switch ads off immediately if a problem comes up. Clicking an ad is never required.
Who can join your child's server?
- Every server has its own address. Only people who know it can find it – it isn't listed publicly by us.
- With the whitelist (one click in the control panel, tab "Players") only players your child has added can join. We recommend turning it on for younger players.
- Your child can kick and ban players at any time and sees who is online.
- Players need a real Minecraft account to join (no "cracked" accounts).
Our rules
Our Terms of Service forbid illegal content, harassment, threats, discrimination and any content that sexualises minors, as well as using servers for anything other than playing (for example crypto mining). Our systems check servers automatically for abuse, and our team can stop servers and ban accounts that break the rules.
What data do we store?
We store what is needed to run the service: the Discord account used to sign in (name, ID, email address, profile picture), the server and its files, and – to prevent abuse – the IP addresses used to sign in. Our servers are in the Netherlands (European Union) and we follow the GDPR. We do not sell personal data. You can read everything in detail in our Privacy Policy, and an account can be deleted completely at any time in the dashboard.
Age and Discord
FreeMC.Host is for people aged 16 and over. Younger children may use it with the permission of a parent or guardian. Signing in works only with a Discord account; Discord itself requires users to be at least 13 (in some countries older). When your child signs in, their Discord account also joins the FreeMC.Host community server, where they can get help. Our community and support team moderate it; your child can leave it at any time.
Tips for parents
- Set up the server together the first time – it takes about a minute.
- Turn on the whitelist and add only friends your child knows.
- Check your child's Discord privacy settings (for example who may send direct messages).
- Talk about not sharing personal information or passwords with other players.
- Make a backup in the control panel from time to time – up to 3 backups are included.
Questions
Do I need to give payment details?
No. There is nothing to pay and no payment method can be added.
Does my child need to install anything?
No. The server runs on our machines. Your child only needs Minecraft and a web browser.
Is the server online all the time?
While people play, yes. After 24 hours without any player it stops automatically to save resources – your child can start it again with one click. Nothing is lost.
How do I delete my child's account?
In the dashboard under Profile. This deletes the account and all servers permanently. You can also contact us on Discord.
How can I contact you?
On our Discord server – open a ticket and our team will answer. You don't need to play Minecraft to ask.
Still have questions? We're happy to explain anything – also to parents who don't play Minecraft.
